The glass is the easy part

Most windows that look dirty are not dirty in the middle. The haze sits around the edges, in the corners and along the bottom rail, and a quick pass over the center leaves all of it. So we squeegee the full pane and then wipe the frame, the sill and the interior edge by hand.

Tracks are their own job and the one most people skip. Sand blows in here constantly and settles in the bottom channel, where it holds moisture and eventually stops the window sliding properly. We vacuum or rinse them out rather than smearing the grit along the rail.

Screens come out, get washed and go back in. A screen that has never been cleaned is doing most of the work of making a window look gray, and it is the single thing that changes the most for the least effort.

Salt is the local complication. Close to the water it settles on glass and dries into a film that ordinary glass cleaner smears rather than lifts, so oceanfront windows want a proper wash more often than they want a wipe.
